No one expects autocracy and authoritarianism to happen in their country, until it’s too late. Scholars know that the breakdown of democracy is a gradual process in which the once unimaginable and unacceptable become normalized. In broad daylight, amidst a flurry of disinformation, lies, voting rights restrictions, and proposed partisan control over elections, a large number of state and federal elected officials no longer support the basic tenets of democracy. These actions have influenced a great many of their followers to do the same, posing a profound threat to our democracy.

Our mission is to educate citizens about the authoritarian threat and equip them to recognize what a belief in and commitment to democratic principles and behaviors look like. Targeting swing communities and using a face-to-face and friend-to-friend approach, we will ask people to do their patriotic duty by understanding the degree to which democracy represents a precious legacy that citizens must step up to secure. They decide from there. We begin and remain assiduously non-partisan even as we ask a crucial question with which every citizen must now grapple: Should America remain a democracy? Or not?
