The Crown Fund: Amplifying The Crown Act
The Crown Fund | Hairstyles for Black Girls
At Black Girls Know Best, we believe the CROWN Act is crucial legislation that aids in the protection of Black girl self-expression, culture, and identity; it’s a promise to protect the dignity, beauty, and rights of Black girls. But in several states, that promise is still unfulfilled.
That’s why this year, we’re teaming up with Rebundle to offer free hairstyles, care, and portraits to Black girls in Alabama as a push to pass the CROWN Act and end hair-based discrimination.
Here’s what we know:
-
Black girls as young as 5 years old report experiencing hair-based discrimination.
-
1 in 2 Black children have experienced hair bias or policy enforcement at school.
-
Black girls are more likely to miss school because of hair-related stress or dissatisfaction.
-
Some schools still ban braids, twists, and locs from graduation and extracurricular events.
-
And as of now, only half of U.S. states have passed the CROWN Act.
To amplify this act, we’re raising $10,000 by Wednesday, May 31st to:
-
Cover hairstylist rates
-
Provide braiding hair from Rebundle
-
Offer food, glam, and wellness throughout the shoot day
-
Capture it all through powerful photography that reflects their radiance
Your support is an agreement that:
- Black girls deserve to be pampered.
- Black girls deserve intentional care.
- Black girls deserve rest.
- Black girl hair is sacred.
This campaign is rooted in one core belief: Black girl hair is sacred.
Join us in loving on our girls, today.
