Welcome! INTERSECT is a gender justice organization in Oregon that connects and strengthens the gender-focused field and gender-justice leadership. 

Our vision is a world where gender doesn’t hold anyone back, where all people live free from violence, and where all living things thrive.

Our mission is to deepen knowledge, skills, and relationships to advance gender justice leadership in Oregon.

Why INTERSECT?

The gender-focused field—organizations and programs working on issues that impact girls, women, and gender-expansive people—in our region saw significant disruption these past few years: cornerstone groups have experienced leadership transitions or shut down altogether.

All of this is happening against a backdrop of rising patriarchal white nationalism. Around the country, we’re seeing increased attacks on the trans community, the wider queer community, and reproductive rights. 

Oregon and Native Nations that share geography with Oregon are home nearly 300 organizations/programs doing some form of values-aligned, gender-specific work. Broadly speaking, the field is disparate, under-networked, and difficult to organize and analyze. 

Currently, no organization exists to build and hold a regional, gender-focused network. 

Our purpose is to fill this gap. To strengthen the gender-focused field and gender-justice leadership in our region by serving as a haven, a home, and a hub for values-aligned leaders and organizations to connect, learn, teach, recharge, strategize, and dream together.

We do this in two ways: by building the knowledge and skills of leaders, and by convening them to deepen relationships. Your contribution will help strengthen the field and create change for women, girls, and gender expansive folks in Oregon.
