STRONGHOLD works at the intersection of racial justice and
restorative justice. We promote restorative justice as a
model that can repair harm at the individual, community, and systemic
levels. In our work, we utilize restorative practices designed to
return people to wholeness by reckoning with, taking
accountability for, and healing harm. We apply those
practices to our efforts to heal trauma linked to white supremacy and
systemic oppression.
STRONGHOLD is a multiracial, multigenerational collective founded by Karena H. Montag and Claire Whitmer in 2019. STRONGHOLD offers brave, skillful, and embodied racial justice and restorative justice training and facilitation. We serve a multiracial and intersectional demographic of organizers, restorative and transformative justice practitioners, system-impacted people, and community members through our public training program. We also partner with organizations and collectives seeking to embed restorative and racial justice within their practices, creating new, generative and healing cultures. We create and sustain conditions that allow people to show up in their wholeness, dignity, and full agency in their relationships, communities, and workplaces.
We seek funding from partners and foundations who share our conviction that healing justice at every level advances racial justice. We seek funding partners who share our philosophy that the transformation we long for at the collective and systemic level will best be accomplished by equipping individuals and communities with skills and practices to be agents of restorative and racial justice in their own spheres of influence. We know this work ripples out!
We have seen and felt in our bones, bodies, and lived experiences the life-giving and transformative impact of this work. We practice and witness its powers every day. We further commit to this as joyful, creative, and embodied justice work.
