JYCA is a program created and led by youth to work towards progressive social change. We seek to educate, empower and inspire political, social, environmental and cultural awareness and action in young activists, guided by Jewish values of social justice.
We educate, empower and inspire young activists by building a community based on trust, respect and cooperative process. In this safe environment we are able to use Jewish perspectives to examine ourselves and the world, inspiring greater political, social, environmental and cultural awareness and action.

Youth Wellbeing:
There has never been a harder time to be a teenager than right now. JYCA provides a safe community for youth to find personal and communal care. JYCA provides a safe space for youth to discover and embody their most authentic selves and is an explicitly safe and supportive space for young Jews who identify as LGBTQ+ and/or JOCSM (Jews of Color, Sephardic and Mizrahi). JYCA staff serve as mentors and trusted adults in our youth's lives. This year there were two youth shootings in Oakland within two weeks; JYCA staff were there to check in with every youth in our program, making sure they were ok and being there to talk and process.

Youth Leadership:
JYCA is unique in that it is truly youth led. Our youth determine, develop and facilitate their own social justice education workshops. Our youth organize their own campaigns/actions and lead in partnerships with other organizing groups. Our youth even sit on our board of directors and guide the course of our organization. At every level of JYCA we are actively fighting against Adultism (the oppression of youth, often resulting in the ignoring, silencing and dehumanizing of young people) and striving to empower youth to believe that they have the power to make a difference.

Community Impact:
JYCA Youth are changing the world today! This year JYCA youth have led phone banking actions to Get Out the Vote in key swing states, and led actions to support the displaced residents of Wood Street. While our youth are currently determining what the main campaign of the year will be, it is sure to be inspiring and impactful in the Bay Area.
