Immigrants Rising (formerly E4FC) started back in 2006 as a small group of educators seeking to support college-bound undocumented students. Since then, we have grown in ways we could not have imagined, expanding our programs beyond education to include entrepreneurship, legal services, career development, mental health, and more.

When we sat down to reflect on this incredible milestone, we began to wonder what possibilities the next few decades might bring. In a movement like ours, it’s easy to get bogged down by what’s not working; the government systems that fail and exclude us, the continuous attacks on DACA, the anti-immigrant hostility we face, not to mention the toll that climate change and pandemic instability takes on us all. But what happens if we take a few steps back and put on a wider lens? How does the knack undocumented folks have for making something out of nothing, for creating opportunities where there appear to be none, make us uniquely capable of envisioning a future that others cannot see?

Storytelling has long been central to Immigrants Rising's work, and to wrap up this year, we want to share some of the stories that allow us to imagine the future we want.  The Future is Undocumented is a digital storytelling series in which members of the Immigrants Rising community reflect candidly on the forces that shaped them, and share their boldest visions, wildest dreams, and most persistent doubts about what the future might hold.
