Rebuild Manzanar's Baseball Field
Will you please help us make this project a "home run"?
The story of baseball at Manzanar is one of the incarceration camp's most touching. Nothing could more poignantly show the "Americanness" of the U.S. citizens imprisoned there during World War II, nor their resilience ability to still find joy and meaning in their day-to-day lives, despite their confinement.
Right now, the site is a dirt lot with a small wooden sign that simply says "Baseball Field."
With your support, we will rebuild the bleachers, backstop, foul ball poles, benches, and announcer's booth, stripe the lines, and install an educational exhibit.
The total cost of the project is $30,619. $20,000 was gifted up front by the Friends of Manzanar and a private donor!
